Is colon cleansing necessary?

We all have heard that bowel movement is very important for a healthy body and skin. Extended retention of stool in the colon was regarded unhealthy as it would release toxins in the body and was associated with colon cancer too. But most of us fail to recognize the difference between an individual who has three bowel movements a day and an individual who has one bowel movement in three days. Fiber adds bulk to our stool therefore enabling proper bowel movement and decreasing the chances of constipation.

Food rich in fiber such as whole wheat, apples, and prunes offer better nutrition and promote regular bowel movement. Proper cleansing of the bowel I sonly required for diagnostic procedures such as colonoscopy or elective surgical procedures in the intestinal tract. Electrolyte mixture such as MiraLax can be taken in small doses to keep bowel movements regular. We have heard that the body has many friendly bacteria and by undergoing colon cleansing we can remove those friendly bacteria’s too and upset the colon area in a negative way. This can cause more problems.

Even medicines such as heavy antibiotics kill the normal flora of the colon which can increase our problems than reduce it. When taking antibiotics patients should also eat yogurt, take acidophilus capsules in order to restore the normal flora of the colon. In severe cases colon cleansing can be suggested but it should not be done just like that. Sometimes just by eating healthy food, drinking enough water and exercising regularly we can avoid colon related problems. Therefore it is not necessary to get a colon cleansing done till it is urgently required or suggested by the doctors.
